This is the summer of fair weather

I made a list last year of what signifies the start of summer to me. Now, I didn't go to Duck Beach, I haven't really done any star-gazing, and I've had a Sunday morning on the Mall instead a Sunday Night on the Mall, but it's still summer. In addition to the rest of that list, this summer includes bike rides, afternoons at the pool (yay friends with pools!), and the light at the end of the tunnel of both school and my major work project.

It's no secret I love summer. LOVE it. Favorite season by far. I love the warmth of the sun and the long days. I feel so energized and full of life. Winter - bleak and depressing. Spring and Fall - too unpredictable.

So that leaves summer, and I love it.

And, of course, the summer music. Thanks to my own music discoveries and a rather informal survey of friends, I've put together a rather perfect summer playlist, found on my sidebar. Almost every one of these songs inspires me to run and skip through a field, barefoot.

My favorite submission though, and this week's Song of the Week, is one from Captain Deviance, who heard it described as "folksy explosions in the sky." I couldn't add it to my playlist, but you can find it by clicking here.

Happy Summer everyone!

Did I miss any of your favorite summer songs? Sound off below!

...and I know a place where we can get it together!

We'll get it together whenever you're ready to goooooooo!

Ahhhh... memories of my very first play. I had one line. Well... one WORD, really.

I had a path on the stage to follow, running, running, running. Then Elder Green picked me up and my legs kept running... "Hey kid, are you eight?"

"SEVEN!!!"

I was nine. But hey, it worked. And it was fun.

And stuff.

Hehe! You snooze, you lose!

(And you snoozed for a long time, because Google didn't like me so much this morning.)

Lex de Azevedo came to our closing night performance. (It was in an auditorium at Eastern Montana College in Billings, MT, so it was more than just driving an hour or so.) I was in awe, but it's not really difficult for a 9-year-old to be awestruck.

More than other things, I remember that every night, "Mom" dropped a Birthday cake. Two of my friends and I would track down the cake after the scene and devour what wasn't spoiled by the floor.

Yep... it has a special place in my heart (and my stomach, for that matter) too!

To truly replicate the experience:

1. Get a round, double-layer store-bought cake from somewhere like Albertson's with a "Happy Birthday" motif. You know the kind... white cake, decorated with too much shortening-based icing.

2. Put it on a sturdy plastic plate from the 70's that won't be likely to break.

3. Have your mom hold it about chest high, then drop it. At that point, there's probably no way to slice it because it will be crumbling all over the place.

4. Dive on in with your fingers, grabbing your favorite handfulls, especially the edges that have way WAY too much of the icing. It's best to have 3 or 4 other people fighting you off for their favorite bits.

5. Don't wash your fingers. LICK them clean. Once there's no discernible icing left, then you can head for the soap and water.

6. Make sure that there are two or three "more mature" people telling you how gross it is to eat cake that way, all the while eyeing the cake hungrily and wishing that they weren't too mature to join in.

*happy sigh*

Thanks for the memories!

Amanda, you're great. :) I love summer, too, although I don't really have any favorite summer songs.
