So, Saturday, I did just that.
I drove from my house to Waynesboro, VA, via I-66W and I-81S, picked up some lunch (and a cherry limeade) at Sonic, then entered the Shenandoah National Park Skyline Drive via Rockfish Gap and drove ALL 105 miles north through the park, driving home via 1-66E.
It took 9 hours.
But for scenery like this, a gorgeous sunset, the most perfect road trip playlist in the known universe (I didn't skip one song and I always end up skipping songs on playlists I think will be great), and the confidence that I can have such an adventure? I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Sunset in the west:
Gorgeous. My family has always gone for drives just because--my dad used to pile all of us in the car on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, just because. I love solo drives and hadn't done one for a long time until I took my mom to Mirror Lake. :) I'm glad you went! I LOVE drives!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures! I love the third one--that must have been a breath-taking sight!
ReplyDeleteWe also did the Sunday afternoon drive thing. Even though they often ended up with me being car sick.
ReplyDeleteI love driving. There's something about it that's so relaxing. Especially down state roads where you have to go a bit slower than on the interstate.
I still fondly remember my drive cross-(most)-country. That was a fabulous summer.
